Doors are very interesting. Throughout history there have been many doors used. A castle in Medieval times would have a gate to keep out intruders. Little hobbits even had tiny doors on their tiny hobbit hole houses in the Shire. All shapes, colors, and sizes have been used for doors. With so many variations of doors they only serve two purposes. 1. They were made to keep people out. 2. To let people in .
I wrote a poem this week which struck a chord for me.
One door opens
another door closes.
A series of
turning doorknobs
and slammed faces
determine where we go
and who we are.
Our lives are an endless cycle of doors opening and closing on us. Even when opportunity fails and we feel weak and tired from that endeavor, there is always another opportunity waiting around the corner. I think we are so focused on the negative sometimes that we let the next opportunity slip by and we sit and complain with this “Woe is me!” mentality. Now it isn’t fun having a door slammed in your face (it may actually hurt a lot.) But dust yourself off and move on to the next door. It may be hard to let go of the past adventures you have had or previous jobs you had. However, life is ever-changing and we should be more open to changes coming our way and not settle and become stagnant. I mean would you rather float in stagnant diseased oily pond water or try something new which may spark a whole new chapter of your life?So when that next door is opening don’t pass it up. Walk through it and be ready for change, who knows where it will take you.
Cheers,
